New leaves emerge a glossy blood red and deepen through burgundy to an almost-black green as they harden off. A compact, self-heading Philodendron that stays tidy rather than climbing, which makes it one of the easier dark-leaved varieties to keep indoors.
Bright indirect light brings out the darkest colour; too little and the leaves stay green. Water when the top of the mix dries, and give it warmth and humidity while it establishes.
